Services for Mrs. Leah Barton, 82, Hillsboro, who died Monday September 19, 1983 were held at the Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22 with the Rev. Robert Wolf and the Rev. Edward Newman officiating. Burial was in the Hillsboro Cemetery. A memorial to the Hillsboro Library has been established.
Mrs. Barton was born October 31, 1900 to John and Cora Smith McDowell, in Mt. Pleasant, where she married Thomas Earl Barton on March 2, 1921; he died December 10, 1982.

Surviving are two sons, Donald of Wever and Gene of Hillsboro, daughter Marilyn Hahn of Sigourney; brother Daryl McDowell, Fairfield; two sisters, Gladys Barton, Washington DC. And Hazel Darnell, Port Richey, Florida; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
