Carlton "Carl" Charles Abare, 86, formerly of Jasper Mine Road, Colchester, died Thursday July 22, 1999, in Norwich (CT) Rehab Care Center following a lingering illness. He was born in Williston, the son of Emery and Ida (Laforce) Abare. Carl was a farmer for the better part of his life. More recently, he had been the sexton of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington, where he was a longtime and faithful member. He had been active in the Men's Club at the church for many years. Carl always had a large and very productive vegetable garden which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was extremely fond of animals and always had several house pets that he lovinly cared for. He is suvived by his children and their spouses, Wayne and Joyce Abare of Shelburne, Fred and Carol Abare of Watertown, NY, Ronald and Helen Abare of Monroe, WI, Larry and Bette Abare of Bristol, Melva Harper and her husband Edward of Voluntown, CT; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister Ethel Barrows of Middlebury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Frieda Abare; his sisters, Helen Goulette, Dolly Derouchie, and Vergie Hutchins, and a brother, Arthur Abare. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 1999, at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Burlington with burial to follow in New Mount Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburgh Ave., Burlington. Visiting hours are Sunday 3-6 p.m. at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 S. Union St., Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 21 Buell St., Burlington, VT. 05401; VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT. 05446 and Colchester Rescue, PO Box 55, Colchester, VT. 05446
