After an illness of several years, Wilson E. Auman passed away at his home in Mifflintown, Wednesday afternoon, April 22, at the ripe age of 80 years old, on Saturday next.
Mr. Auman was a school teacher by profession, having taught various schools in Mifflin and Juniata counties. He was elected county superintendent of schools in the 1880's for two consecutive terms, after which he resumed teaching, in which profession he engaged until he retired a number of years ago. For several years he was principal of the Mifflintown High Schools.
Mr. Auman was a democrat in politics, in which he always took a prominent part, but never sought political preferment, with the exception of the time he was a candidate for Associate judge. He was a veteran of the Civil War and was affiliated with the following secret orders, Mifflintown Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows and Red Men. He was a consistent member of the M. E. Church, Mifflintown, all of his life.
Deceased is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Emma C. Dennis, of Delaware township; one sister, Mrs Fianna Fogleman, of McAlisterville, and eight daughters and four sons, as follows: Mrs. Cornelia App, Elgin, IL. Dr. Pearl Bliss, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. W. C. Pyle, New York City, now in Paris; Mrs. W. F. Oberholtzer, Mt. Pleasant, Walker township: Mrs. N. M. Seibert, Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs Glen Metcalf, Moville, Iowa: Mrs. Roy Roggins, Sheldon, Iowa. and Mrs. Beulah Shearer, at home; R. H Auman, Lancaster, Pa.: J. E. Auman, Los Angeles, Calif.; Bradford E. Auman, Harrisburg, and Rev. L. W. Auman, Winstead, Conn.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon, April 25, at 2:30 o'clock, which will be in charge of the Masonic Order, conducted by Rev. T. H. Covert, and interment in the Presbyterian cemetery, Mifflintown.
