Annie Lee Benjamin was born in Columbus, Ga., one of ten children of Jim and Mariah Porter. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. They moved to Birmingham, Alabama; where she and Thomas Benjamin were married on March 7, 1923.
To this union there were no children, but she raised five children, nieces and nephews.
They moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1923 and united with the Pilgram Baptist church. Later she moved her membership to Antioch Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor W. M. Daniels.
After nearly two months of illness in the hospital, she wanted to come home. Her devoted husband brought her home on July 29th. She departed this life at home on July 30th at 9:30 A.M.
She leaves to mourn her passing, two sisters; Mrs. Patsy Patterson; Mrs. Mariah Davenport. Two brothers, Mr. William Porter and Mr. A. Porter, of Chicago, Illinois and a devoted husband, Mr. Thomas Benjamin, and host of relatives and friends.
Service held Monday August 15, 1974, 8:00 p.m. at A. A. Rayner Funeral Home, 318 W. 71st Street, Chicago.
Interment, Lincoln Cemetery, Blue Island.
