GRAFTON: James A. Baker, 87, passed peacefully Friday February 25, 2011 surrounded by his family at Millbury Health Care Center.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years Eleanor K. (Hally) Baker, his daughter Karen Baker of Shrewsbury, his son Mark Baker and his wife Faye of North Grafton, four grandchildren, Rachel, Collin, Timothy, Kelly, one brother Robert and his wife Joyce of Florida. He was predeceased by his sister Pearl Phillips and his brother George.
Jim was born May 14, 1923 in Grafton the son of the late Raymond and Fannie (Nelson) Baker and lived here all his life.
Jim was a World War II Army veteran serving as a Staff Sgt. in The Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. He then became a Massachusetts State Trooper graduating with the class of 1948 serving for 20 years with C Troop and The Worcester District Attorney retiring as a Detective Lieutenant in 1968. He then became Chief of Security at Heald Machine Corporation in Worcester for 17 years.
Jim loved his town serving on the Grafton School and Finance Committees. He attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was a member of The Grafton Lions Club. Jim enjoyed politics, sports, particularly The New York Yankees, his red truck and his dog "Gizmo". He will be greatly missed by his family and the friends he made during his lifetime.
Funeral services are Wednesday March 2nd at 11 am at THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME 152 Worcester St. in North Grafton. Calling hours are Tuesday March 1st from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery North Grafton after his funeral service.
