Julian was born on June 19, 1923, in Maltrata, Veracruz, Mexico, the youngest of six children born to Daniel Dector and Maria Eulogia Burgos, both from Veracruz, Mexico. (Mexican naming convention puts the maiden name of the mother after the surname of the father, but his last name was Dector.) Julian was married several times, but never had children of his own. He was a devoted husband and a kind and generous step-grandfather to the grandchildren of his spouses. He was a successful business man and contractor in the Southern California area for many years. He raised pure-bred chickens as a hobby, and enjoyed traveling and backyard barbeques with friends and family.
