John Burns was working for C.H.& Q. Company in Burlington, IA when he was struck by a freight train engine. He did not appear to hear the train which was coming down grade and could not have stopped. The train backed up and John was taken to the hospital where the surgeons found that his skull was fractured and his right leg crushed. He identified himself and died a few hours later. He has two married daughters in Illinois and had $10 in his pockets when found and the last month's wages is still due him. The body was taken to Prugh's undertaking but as of this date, it is not known where he is buried.
