Attorney, Business Owner and World Traveler. Born Michael Duane Patterson, he was the youngest of four children born to Harry and Myra (Howard) Patterson in Detroit, MI. Founder and former Managing Partner: Patterson, Phifer & Phillips, PC and Annis Historic Properties in Detroit. Former Managing Partner: Patterson, Pirslen & Murry. Mr. Patterson, along with his first wife, spearheaded the renovation of the former Annis Furs Building in downtown Detroit, renaming the building the L.B. King Building and obtaining it's designation as an historical building. This couple also organized the Renaissance Baptist Church of Detroit in 1982 where he served as the first chairman of the Board of Trustees. Their partnership (business and marriage) ended shortly after the birth of his only child. Following his 1967 graduation from Mumford High School in Detroit, Mr. Patterson attended Ferris State College before transferring to Western Michigan University (BS, 1970). He earned his Juris Doctorate in 1974 from The National Law Center, George Washington University. While attending law school, he served as an Intern to United States Senator Birch Bayh from 1971-1972, and was a Staff Assistant to United States Senator Philip A. Hart, 1972-1974. He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1975, and was eventually admitted to practice in the State of New York and the District of Columbia. Atty. Patterson had politics in his blood and attempted several times over several years to be elected as a State Representative for his district. In 1984, he was appointed to serve as a Michigan Delegate for Senator Gary Hart to the Democratic National Convention. In 1991 he was unsuccessful in his campaign to succeed the Honorable George W. Crockett as the Representative in Congress for the 13th Congressional District. This defeat ended his personal political aspirations. Specializing in the fields of Property Law, Insurance Defense Law and Workers Compensation, Mr. Patterson was active in the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the New York State Bar and the State Bar of Michigan, and served as a Chair, Vice-Chair and Member of several committees until his untimely death.
