Obituary of Leroy Adams
(September 21, 1928 - January 21, 2012)
Biloxi, MS ~ Leroy Adams, Master Sergeant, USAF, Retired, formerly of Hamden, CT, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, in Biloxi, MS, at the age of 83. Leroy, was born September 21, 1928 in Lincoln County, MS, to Curtis and Lemmie Adams. Husband of the late Nellie Mae Munford Adams.
Leroy was a veteran of WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Wars. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps training and serving as a Montford Point Marine followed by service in the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Master Sergeant with a total of 21 years of service. Mr. Adams also worked for United Technologies in experimental sheet metal, fuel cell technology retiring as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Sikorsky Aircraft division. Leroy was a member Prince of Peace Church in Biloxi, MS, member of the of the Montford Point Marine Association, Inc., served as a member of the Biloxi Planning Commission (1997 - 2001), was a member of The Antique Automobile and Engine Club of Mississippi, as well as being a member of a train and trolley club.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory are children Sandra Adams and Curtis Adams both of Hamden, CT, Clark (Shirley) Adams of Meriden, CT, Sharon (Theron) Adams-Edge of Biloxi, MS, and Susan Adams of Hamden, CT. Sister Johnnie Mae Wells of Westwego, LA, half-sisters Matilda Ann Adams of Chicago, IL, Brenda Perkins of Brookhaven, MS, and half-brother David Adams of Chicago, IL. Leroy is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children and 2 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Debra Adams of Abilene, TX, sister-in-law Carrie Bryant of Vallejo, CA, Godson Darnell Martin, dear friend Trendia Brownlow both of Biloxi, MS, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by daughter Virgie Lee Adams, sister Alma Lloyd and brother Bob Buie.
Homegoing services will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, Ester St., Biloxi on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 11AM. Visiting hours hours 9AM - 11AM Burial will be at Biloxi National Cemetary with full military honors. Arrangements are entrusted to Marshall Funeral Home, Biloxi, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Montford Point Marines Association, Inc.
