Mrs. D. H. Brown, Ledyard, Passes Lived 40 Years in Ledyard; Husband, 3 Daughters Survive
LEDYARD - Another well loved and respected member of this community passed away Friday, when Mrs. D. H. Brown, who has lived in Ledyard for the past 40 years, died. Florence Beem was born May 5, 1869, at Beach Corners, Ohio, and died at Buffalo Center, Iowa, Oct. 19, 1934 at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 14 days.
At the age of 5 years she came with her parents to Iowa and with the exception of four years In
Kansas and 4 years in Nebraska she lived in Iowa ever since, the past 40 years living at Ledyard.
She was united in marriage on Dec. 1, 1887 to D. H. Brown at Eldora, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. One passed away in early infancy and another Lola, at the age of four years. This daughter was the first person laid to rest in the Ledyard cemetery. She is survived by her husband, D. H. Brown and three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Welfare, Mrs. Chris Oelhaus of Ledyard and Mrs. Ralph Brown of Ouckeen, Minn., also three granddaughters, Doris Welfare and Marvella and Doretta Johnson.
She also leaves one brother, A, H. Beem of Whitney, Nebraska and one half-brother, B. F. Beem and one half sister, Mrs. S. Z. Thomas of Montana.
Although she did very little complaining Mrs. Brown suffered very poor health for a number of years and on Wednesday of last week went to Buffalo Center to seek relief. The relief she sought came in a sudden unexpected and tragic way for on Friday she underwent an operation at 9 a.m. from which she never regained consciousness and passed out of this life of sorrows and pains into
the great beyond Mrs. Brown was well known as a kind and patient mother and was much loved and respected by her many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. Hotchkiss in charge. She was laid to rest beside her daughter in Highland Home Cemetery. Pallbearers were Neal Lynch, Dan Lynch, Everett Hartshorn, Oliver Marquis, N. A. Pingle and H. M. Dyer.
