Obituary
Mrs. Louisa A. Becker, wife of Peter Becker, passed away at their farm residence, three and a half miles southeast of Meriden, Jefferson county, Kan., where her son, Philip Becker, and family now reside, on Tuesday evening, November 1, 1898, aged 59 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Mrs. Becker was born in Monroe county, Ohio, on February 22, 1839. Her maiden name was Dippel. She untied with the Protestant Evangelist church when but fifteen years of age, remaining a church member for over forty-five years.
She was united in marriage with Peter Becker in Washington county, Ohio, February 24, 1857. To their union fourteen children were born, and their names are as follows: Mary, Adam, Henry, Emma (dead), Charley, Carrie (dead),Philip, Anna, Daniel, Edward, John, Albert, Wallace (dead),and Willie. Tow girls are married. Mary married Mr. Barsel, who now lives in Ohio. Anna united in marriage with Wm. Osborn who lives near Meriden. Six of the boys are married, the other remains single. They all live in Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Becker have lived in Kansas for a number of years and are well known in this section.
Mrs. Louisa A. Becker was sick for several months. Every effort possible was made to restore her to health, but without avail. Mrs. Becker bore her sufferings without complaining, although at times she suffered greatly.
She was a good Christian lady, a kind and loving mother and was highly respected and loved by all who knew her, and it was indeed very painful for each child to say good-bye and view their mother for the last time on this earth.
The funeral services were held on Thursday, November 10, 1898, at the M.E. church, at 11 o'clock, and were conducted by the Rev. J.D. Hitchcock, of Valley Falls. A large crowd attended the preaching services, after which the remains were interred in the beautiful cemetery of Meriden. The bereaved family has the sympathy of all.
