He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Joe was united in marriage to Ivon Friend on Aug. 14, 1953, and was a devoted husband and father, loving to spend time with his family and friends. He played an active role in raising his grandchildren and was adored by them all. Joe was a member of the Hood United Methodist Church in Republic, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #178. For 35 years, Joe took great pride and enjoyment in his work at Ozark York. He was well known for his strong work ethic by his friends and comrades there. Joe also had a lifelong hobby of farming.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivon, on Aug. 3, 2007; his parents; and two brothers. Joe is survived by his children and their spouses, Mike and Cecilia Adams, Naples, Fla., Patricia and Kenny Pope, Republic, and Carolyn and Steve Price, Willard; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Nancy Adams, Christina and Mike Meisenhelter, Isabella Adams, Tyler Adams, Joshua Pope, Sarah and Ryan Boatright, and Eric and Ashley Short; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Elina, and Adrianna Adams; and many other relatives and friends.
The family expresses a special thanks to the Hospice Compassus caregivers, Kim, Connie, Teresa, Cole and Treva.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, also in the funeral home, with Pastor Monty Stratton officiating.
