1760-1761 was a member of the Medical Society, Edinburgh, when he attended William Cullen's chemistry class there. He did not graduate. Lived at the corner of Tradd and Orange St in 1767; he was then the doctor for St Philips Parish. Later lived at the corner of Meeting and Queen Sts, then at 44 Broad. He was a Loyalist during the Revolution, and congratulated Cornwallis on his victory at Camden. He was amerced 12 per cent of his property but withdrew his claim for compensation. Owned a plantation at Round O, wrote a diary of a journey to Philadelphia. Was a surgeon to the SC Royalists, a Tory Regiment formed in E FL in 1778
