Son of Charles Henry Chamberlain and Rosalie Adelaid Valentine. Husband of Mary Louise Hynes.
Walte r V. Chamberlain of Natick, a retired aircraft industry teacher and engineer, died Tuesday at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham after a lengthy illness. He was 91.
Born in Natick, he graduated from Natick High School and, in 1931, from Burdett College. He had extensive aircraft maintenance training at New England Aircraft School and MIT.
Mr. Chamberlain worked most of his life in the aircraft industry, including maintenance and operation, teaching, engineering, design and installation of modifications of various aircraft. These modifications provided for the flight testing of numerous electronic and missile systems being developed for military services, including the Sparrow, Hawk and Patriot missile systems.
He worked for Curtis Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y., and the MIT radiation lab at Bedford Field. He later worked for Raytheon Flight Test Facility for 28 years. He was manager of the modification and installation section of the flight facility when he retired.
Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary L. (Hynes); one daughter, Paula M. Rousseau of Framingham; one son, Alan of Marlboro; one grandson, Gary R. Wall of Stuyvesant Falls, N.Y.; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Ann Wall.
A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at Holy Family Chapel at St. Patrick's Manor, Framingham.
Burial was private.
