Chester A Absher
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Okawville for Chester A. Absher, 72, retired L & N Railroad agent of that city and father of County Superintendent of Highways Harold R Absher of this city, who died suddenly of a heart attack at his home Saturday night at about 11:00 o'clock.
Rev. Smalley officiated and interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Okawville, Buchmueller funeral home was in charge.
Chester Arthur Absher, son of Daniel and Nannie Handley Absher, was born in White County, Illinois, January 22, 1883. He was married to Leota Knauss, April 14, 1906. Four children were born to this union – Harry, Nancy, Harold and Arthur. Harry and Arthur died in infancy and Leota Absher died in 1914.
In December, 1920, the deceased married Caroline Backs who died in November, 1944. In July, 1946, the deceased married Anna B. Jones. Survivors include his widow, Anna, one daughter, Nancy, Mrs. Melvin Marien, Brentwood, Mo., one son Harold, Nashville; one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren.
Mr. Absher was a member of the Methodist Church, Okawville Community Club, Odd Fellows, and had long been active in civic affairs. He had recently been retired from fifty-one years of active service with L & N Railroad, forty three years of which were spent as agent at Okawville.
