"History of Crawford County, Arkansas", Cahpater XV. Soldiers of Crawford County, p. 231: David Matlock, born 1794, died 18 Fairview Cemetery, Van Buren, Arkansas. Served as Ensign (2nd. Lt.) in Kennedy's Company, 1st Tennessee Infantry under General Andrew Jackson in the Campaigns against the British and Creek Indians during the War of 1812.

David Matlock, who fought in the War of 1812. He was born in 1791 and died in 1873. He was a member of Kennedy's Company of the 1st TN Infantry. His wife, Miss Martha Armstrong Matlock, also is buried in Fairview Cemetery. She was the daughter of John Armstrong who fought during the Revolutionary War. She was born on Oct. 6, 1798, married Matlock in August of 1815 and died in Van Buren in October of 1865.
