KAYSVILLE - Earl Donald Allen, age 85, died August 5, 2001 in Clearfield from cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
He was born September 30, 1915 in Billings, Montana to Thomas Henry and Edith Clara Brown Allen. He married E. Jean Bates on May 26, 1945 in Newport, Rhode Island.
1945 in Newport, Rhode Island. Earl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an Eagle Scout. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served his country for 22 years. World War II started for Earl at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1942 while serving on the USS Neosho. During the war he served on many ships including the USS Northhampton when it was sunk and remained patriotic to his country throughout his life. He was recognized for his marksmanship and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, son, Tom (Kris) Allen of Franklin, Tennessee; Kathy (Paul) Schaeffer of Chula Vista, California, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Visitation will be held from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. Interment will be in Kaysville Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Research Center, 2000 East North Campus Dr., Salt Lake City, Utah . It is hoped that donations will help others who suffer from a similar form of cancer.
