Harriet Tillotson's father was James Tillotson (b: 13 Oct 1811 in South Carolina; d: 29 Apr 1887 in South Carolina) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and her mother was Elizabeth Betsy McAbee Tillotson (b: 30 Apr 1812 in South Carolina; d: 20 Sept 1897 in South Carolina) of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Some of the old minutes of the Sabbath School of Cannon's Campground Methodist Church in Cowpens, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, can be found in the archives of the church. These minutes were handwritten. The minutes of 24 June 1866 list the officers, teachers, and assistant teachers. Miss Harriet Tillotson is listed as a Sabbath Day Teacher.
