"Young Girl Drowns in Swimming Pool", front page of The Daily Missoulian ~ September 20, 1959
Four year-old Selia Marie Cramer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cramer, 1832 South Ave. W., was pronounced dead on arrival of medical authorities at the scene Saturday afternoon when she failed to respond to a resuscitator after falling into an unfenced private swimming pool near her home.
The child was apparently playing near the pool with a friend when she fell in. She was pulled from the pool by Marcy Sarge II, 2300 Kemp Street.
Fire department equipment, as well as equipment from the sheriff's office and the police department, were rushed to the accident scene.
The child's father, Albert Cramer, a Forest Service employee, was hunting near Hamilton at the time of the accident. Ravalli County Sheriff John Cain and Deputy Sheriff Chester Roberts were in search of Cramer late Saturday night. He was reported hunting in the Alta area of the West Fork of the Bitter Root, nearly 50 miles from Hamilton.
Justice of the Peace J.E. Brodie, designated to replace Coroner Ralph Simmons and acting Coroner E. W. Ziesemer while they are on vacation, was not notified of the accident until late Saturday night. It was not known if an inquest will be conducted into the accident.
