Born in 1826 to Charles and Louise Dement. Attended Georgetown College. Enlisted as 1st Lt. First Maryland Artillery CSA. Promoted to Captain in 1862. Unit was known as Dements Battery afterward. There was no braver man in the unit. Surrendered at Appomattox Virginia April 9, 1865. Post war farmer and Treasury Dept. worker. Husband of Mary S. Dent. Died in 1907
