Tollef and Louise (Anderson) Bagaas

Tollef A. Bagaas was born July 9, 1866 in Sigdal, Norway to Anders and Gertrude Bagaas. He was a painter by trade and when he was 17 years old, he came to the United States together with his parents and two sisters. He and his brother Knute spent one year at Farmington, Minnesota. Then he lived one year in Wright Township with his parents. They lived in a sod house. This was in 1883 when they came to Marshall County. His parents bought homestead rights from Aaron Lindstrom on the place he spent more than 65 years which was in Section 14 in Wanger Township. Tollef inherited this land from his parents.
On February 7, 1896 Tollef Bagaas married Louise Anderson, a Swedish girl. She had come to Marshall County in 1894. They had two children: Anders Bagaas and Mrs. Albert Jacobson both of Hallock, Minnesota. There are 1 1 grandchildren.
Tollef Bagaas had purchased an additional quarter of land in Section 23. He held many responsible offices during his life. He was treasurer of District *50 for many years. He belonged to the Wanger Lutheran Church until it was dissolved. They then attended church in Marsh Grove.
Mrs. Tollef Bagaas came to this country in 1894. Her brother John Anderson had come here earlier and sent a ticket to Sweden to get his sister here. Submitted by Mrs. Albert Jacobson
