HOGAN, O.W., Jr. O.W. Hogan, Jr. of Atlanta died on January 31, 2011 of natural causes after a brief stay in Hospice Atlanta. Mr. Hogan, who was called "W" by many of his relatives and as "Hoag" or just "Hogan" by most of his friends, was born in Choufrant, Louisiana in 1915 and grew up there. He graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1937 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and joined York Corporation as a sales engineer for their refrigeration equipment division. He served in the Navy as a supply officer in the South Pacific during World War II, returning to York after the war. In 1947 Hogan married Miriam Davis of Minden, Louisiana. They lived initially in Columbia, SC, then moved to Charlotte, NC with Hogan serving in both locations as a York sales representative. In 1957 Hogan and business partner, Bob Barnes, formed Barnes & Hogan, Inc. supplying York parts and equipment mainly for commercial refrigeration facilities in the Southeastern United States. The business was successful because their customers held both men in high regard for their competence, honesty and reliability. Hogan expected to retire and leave the business to his younger partner, but Barnes passed away, so Hogan, out of concern for his employees continued to manage the business until he died at age 95. A good athlete, Hogan played baseball in high school and college, but golf became his lifetime sport. He was a charter member of Dunwoody Country Club where he established warm friendships with many fellow members who regarded him with great affection. He was always considerate, generous and kind and had a great sense of humor and no ego. His wife, known as "Mimi", was the love of his life. She died in 1993. They had no children. Hogan is survived by two nieces, Jane Keener and Jo Smith and by , as he called them, his sub-nieces and sub-sub nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Ione Davis Braswell. A graveside funeral service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park on February 3rd at 10:30 am. Gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the charity of your choice.
