On the death of Silas in 1923, the Uxbridge Journal published a lengthy notice which read in part:
"He came to Uxbridge when only a lad in the spring of 1850, seventy-two years ago. At that time this place was a mere village and part of the township. There was not a church or school established and the market town was Whitby, and the settlers had to haul their grain all that distance.
Until the death of Mr. Jos. Gould, one of the founders of Uxbridge, Mr. Chrysler was employed on his farm, and married his daughter, Mary Jane Gould, who passed away some ten years ago. This venerable couple commenced farming on the land now owned by George Catherwood, just south of the park. Mr. Chrysler cut the first timber ever felled on the place, and he cleared the whole 150 acres. For thirty-three years they lived there and when their only son, Wellington, took possession of the farm, Mr. Chrysler purchased the 33 acres on the Centre Road and lived there until eight years ago when he moved to town.
This pioneer couple identified themselves with the Quaker Church on the hill, and of which Mrs. Isaac James is now, we believe, the only surviving member. ...
Mr. Chrysler was a Canadian of Canadians. His father was born in Canada, and lived with his uncle on the historic old site where the famous battle of Chrysler's Farm was fought on the banks of the St. Lawrence, and our citizen had vivid recollections of his uncle's description of that battle, how they cleared the farm of the dead, and cared for the wounded."
