DEATH OF DAUGHTER OF FAMOUS PIONEER
The death of Mrs. Petrita Beaubien Abreu, daughter of well known pioneer Judge Charles Beaubien of Taos, whose grandaughter, Mrs. W.M. Adair, is a resident of Las Cruces.
Mrs. Adair's mother was a sister of the deceased Mrs. Abreu.
The Beaubien family pioneered at the generation Mrs. Adair belonged were all reared here. The following account of this pioneer from the Santa Fe Mexican is most interesting to the Dona Ana pioneers who were members of this fine old family.
Mrs. Abreu came as a bride for many years and came to Rayado, New Mexico and has lived here ever since. In Rayado the Abreus were a highly respected family and accumulated a large estate. Mr. Abreu died fifteen years ago. Nine children survive the parents. Charles lives in Santa Fe, Mrs. D.A. Clouthier and Mrs. James P. Abreu in Springer, Mrs. Emilio Valdez who resides in Sweet Water Valley in Springer, Jesus, Ramon, and Miss Sofia live at home. Rayado is a station in old Santa Fe and a marker has been placed by the Daughters of the Revolution.
Mrs. Abreu was a devout member patron of the Roman Catholic Church and the funeral service was conducted in the family chapel by two Fathers Collier assisted by Jose D. Senn, a nephew of the deceased "Grandma Abreu" was an aristocrat and commoner to the rich and poor and will be greatly missed by her friends and legion.
There were nine children, twenty three great-grandchildren were at the funeral to mourn her. The requiem mass was celebrated by Reverend Collier, while Father Collier, brother of the celebrant, sang in the choir.
