Elmer Altena, 72, of Sioux Center died Friday, December 12, in a Sioux City Hospital after a long illness.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, in the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Thurman Rynbrandt officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.
Altena was born February 4, 1914, in Ireton. He married Sena Van Donkelaar January 7, 1937, in Orange City. He worked for De Stigter Brothers Construction Company for 25 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Altena was a member of the First Reformed Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eugene, Kenneth and Arvin, all of Sioux Center; three daughters, Elma Mulder, Betty Vos and Melinda Keith, all of Sioux Center; two brothers, Sam of Lake Park and Julius of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sisters, Janet Van Essen of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Ina Broek of Sioux Center, and 13 grandchildren.
