WOODBURY — A memorial service for Mrs. Janet (Smith) Bartow, 74, of 35 White Oak Road, was held Saturday, December 21, at 12:30 p.m. at First Church of Woodbury. Burial was to be at the family's convenience in East Village Cemetery in Monroe.
Mrs. Bartow, widow of Homer N. Bartow, died Tuesday, December 17, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport. She was born on March 20, 1922, in Mineola, N. Y., a daughter of the late Wesley and Mabel (Hotaling) Smith. She graduated from Oneonta Stale Teachers College in New York in 1944 and taught for 30 years in the Monroe school system before her retirement. She moved to Woodbury in 1985, where she was an active member in First Church of Woodbury, the Woodbury Historical Society, the Friends of the Woodbury Library, the Sarah Whitman Trumbull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and in the Association for Gravestone Studies. She also did presentations and workshops on gravestone rubbing.
She was pre-deceased by a son, Bruce Barlow.
