|Death: ||Oct. 22, 1912|
("The Journal-Herald" newspaper of Avoca, Iowa dated Oct. 24, 1912 on p. 1. Dates on gravestone and information in obituary do not quite agree.)
Tuesday John Baasch died at his home on Frost Avenue after a short illness, aged 64 years, one month and ten days. The funeral services will be held Friday at the German Lutheran church at 2 o'clock p.m.
John Baasch had been enjoying the best of health. Monday he noticed his arm began to swell, his wife was in the country at the home of a daughter, but another daughter happened to come home and when he told her of his trouble she sent for a doctor at once. When the doctor arrived he pronounced it blood poison and said there was no hope. The patient died Tuesday morning.
The only cause for the blood poison was a slight scratch on the hand. Mr. Baasch had lived in Avoca for many years and was well known to many of the Journal-Herald readers. He was a good citizen, neighbor and friend, and his death was a surprise and shock to all. The friends of the family extend sympathy.
