Astor Glendor Aukrust, 83, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Funeral services were held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hanska. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
Astor was born Jan. 14, 1919, near Hanska to Ole and Lena (Gudwagen) Aukrust. He attended District #67 County School, after which he continued to live in the Hanska area. On Oct. 6, 1943, Astor married Evelyn Hose at the Lutheran Parsonage in St. James. Following marriage, the couple moved to Sleepy Eye, where Astor worked with Del Monte Corporation, the Sleepy Eye Creamery, drove truck for Pietrus Foods, drove school bus for Marti Bus Lines and drove a van, delivering newspapers for the Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch for a number of years. Astor was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and was confirmed at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with his many friends, sight seeing, driving, watching professional wrestling on television, going to auction sales and watching his son race cars.
Astor his survived by his wife, Evelyn Aukrust of Sleepy Eye; daughter, Rosie and husband Luverne Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye, sons, Richard and wife Jane Aukrust of Hanska and Donald and wife Maggie Aukrust of Brooklyn Center; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Borghild and husband Elwyn Sperl of Elysian and Helga and husband Raymond Lodes of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Donna Mae Augustin; brother-in-law, Gordon Hose, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Lena; daughter, Dee Lindsey in 1996; his father and mother-in-law; sisters-in-law, Caroline Olson, Elzina Christensen and Verna Hose; brothers-in-law, Raymond Hose, Leonard Hose, Jan Christensen and Russell Augustin.
