Lloyd Adams was born and grew up in Richmond, Texas. He was the youngest son of Lewis Stone Adams and Maggie Bryan Adams. Lloyd's grand parents were (Robert) Sanford Adams and Nancy E. Adams, originally from Pickens County, Alabama and Joseph H. Bryan and Safronia Acker Bryan, also from Pickens COunty. Maggie named her son Lloyd because she saw the long casualty listings from WW I with the name Lloyd frequently listed.
Lloyd graduated from Lamar highschool in Richmond in 1932, however after school there was no work due to the depression and Lloyd enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps program, where he spent several years building roads in East Texas. He moved to Houston in the mid 1930's and enrolled in dental school, but quit when he ran out of money. He then went to work for the Gulf Oil Corp. as a records clerk in 1937. While working in downtown Houston he met his future wife, Verna Robinett, who at the time worked for Chamberlain's Camera shop in the Gulf building. Lloyd dated Verna until WWII began and he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 intending to become a flying officer. However his eyesight was not good enough to become a flying cadet and instead he was sent to Alaska as an aircraft armorer in the 18th Fighter Squadron of the 11th Air Force. He served on the islands of Attu and Kiska as technical sergeant and Crew Chief, arming P-40 Warhawk fighter planes until the end of the war in 1945.
Lloyd returned to Houston and married Verna at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Houston, on September 15, 1945. Lloyd went back to work for the Gulf Oil Corp and Verna and Lloyd lived in a garage apartment on Blodget St, and later in a four-plex apartment on Wentworth St. around the corner from Verna's parents house. In 1946 they had a son, Lloyd Jr. In 1952, Lloyd and Verna moved to West University Place which at that time was a far west suburb of Houston. In 1955 they had a second son, Raymond. Lloyd continued working for Gulf Oil and in 1956 earned a bachelors degree from the University of Houston at night school. In 1970 his beloved wife, Verna, passed away. Lloyd retired from Gulf Oil in 1972 as a Methods and Procedures Analyst.
In 1974 Lloyd married Dorothy Myers Knowlton whom he met through mutual friends. Lloyd and Dorothy divorced a few years later, but he kept a friendship with her and her family. Lloyd passed away in 1981 after a brief illness. He is buried beside his first wife Verna in the Adams plot of Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas.
