Radio and TV personality. Mr. Bishop was originally named Jerry Ghan. Jerry got started in radio in 1962 and TV in 1969. He was the creator of the first "Svengoolie," who was a late night horror movie host of the "Screaming Yellow Theater" from 1970-1973. Mr. Bishop went on to develop a cult following with his schtick and comments during B-rated horror movies. He was inducted into the Radio & Television Broadcasters Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in September of 2004. In 2011, Mr. Bishop (as his character) was inducted into the Horror Host Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Columbia College in Chicago, Wright City College (also in Chicago) and the University of Illinois. He went on tour with the Beatles in 1965 and 1966. Before touring with the Beatles, Mr.Bishop was a popular nighttime DJ in Cleveland. Mr.Bishop moved to San Diego in the late 1970's where he hosted a morning talk show. As a result of the San Diego show, he went on to earn three Emmy awards. His radio career spanned over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Liz; his daughter Melissa, his son, Christopher; and a granddaughter. Cause of Death: Heart Attack. Aged 77. (Bio by: Karen J Lambert)

You were the best. I listened to you on WCFL in the 60's and watched Screaming Yellow Theater religiously. I moved from Chicago in 1973 and didn't realize you had such success in San Diego. You're a class act.

Will always remember the original "Svengoolie" !!! My brother & I watched every weekend with anticipation & thouroughly enjoyed the great comedy !!! Peace to you Mr. Bishop. Chicago loves you & so do we!!!
