Rifleman Robert Carson 108

D Company 12th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles

The son of James and Ellen Carson of Bushfoot, Portballintrae, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Robert was among the first men to enlist at Ballymena.

On the 30th June 1916 he was in the forward trenches of Hamel Village.

It is thought that Robert was taken prisoner by the German army during front line offences, or was killed in action. He was last seen July 1st, 1916 and was reported missing.

In November of 1917 his parents were still waiting for news of their son. The army was forced to conclude that he had been killed on July 1st, 1916. Robert was 21 years of age.

Robert is commemorated on the Bushmills War Memorial and in Dunluce Presbyterian Church, Bushmills, Co. Antrim, Ireland.
