John was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. He served from May 14, 1943 till April 23, 1946. He was a member of the 1,767th Labor Supply Company in France. Labor supply companies were subordinate to the Quartermaster Corps. They provided the "muscle" for off loading cargo vessels of special landing ships.
