Sophia was the oldest daughter of Jacob and Johanna Maria (Mathison) Mathison. She moved to Brandon with her family some time between 1880 and 1882. Sophia married John N. Berg on December 28, 1891, in Brandon. They had two sons: Arthur and Carl Oscar; and five daughters: Hannah Mathilde, Julia, Hilda, Mabel Agnes and Myrtle Evelyn. She died at her daughter Julia's house in 1951.
