Scott was a cowboy, in every sense, and he lived his life as a rancher. Scott liked to name his animals after family members. He named a cow after his niece Katie, a horse after his daughter Alice, and a dog after his nephew Jack.

He met Edna Kinkel in North Park, CO, where they were both working at the Ennis Ranch. In 1913, they were married in Littleton, CO, at the home of Edna's uncle, George Kinkel, Sr., Edna's adoptive father.

After they were married, Scott bought a small herd of cows and a ranch in North Park, where they lived until their children were of high school age. In 1929, they moved to their ranch in Steamboat Springs the old-fashioned way: by horse and wagon, taking with them their livestock and pets. While the trip was generally uneventful, they lost one of their cats when the wagon turned over while crossing a creek. George Kinkel Jr. and Fritz Graham, Scott's son and namesake, drove by automobile over the pass and met them on the other side to help with the move.

Scott died in Glenrock, WY, while on an extended visit with his son Fritz. Scott was survived by his son and two daughters; four brothers and one sister; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Many thanks to Betty Alberts, FAG Member #47293729, for providing an obituary published by the Glenrock Independent on July 15, 1972.
