Burial will follow services in Restlawn Memorial Park, with Tony Bible, Gary Thompson, Mark Barntley, Don Bailey, John Halliburton, and Elmer Hall serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lowe's Employees, J. R. Jones, Kirk Standerfer, Kyle Standerfer, Derek Glossup, Danton Glossup, and Dale Hicks.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. Boyd passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008, at Hospice of East Texas, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on April 21, 1947, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Auther and Susie Finley Boyd. He married Elaine Glossup, on August 17, 1974, in Sulphur Springs. She survives.
Mr. Boyd retired from Kimberly-Clark, after 22 years and worked for three years as a salesman for Lowe's. He was a member of Lake Highlands Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1968 to June 1972, as an E5 Staff Sergeant. He was part of an elite group of soldiers called the Jolly Green Pararescue Team. They were responsible for extracting wounded soldiers off the battlefield during the Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous medals during his service.
Other survivors include: two sons, Brian Boyd and wife, Danielle, of Tyler, and Cody Boyd and wife, Candice, of Athens; one sister, Diane Standerfer, of Castle Rock, Colordo; two grandchildren, Brayson Jacob Boyd and Kaydence Heath Boyd; and his inlaws, Doyle and Hazel Glossup.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
