Alexander Allison, a native of Pennsylvania, was of Scotch Ancestry. He was a farmer by occupation and went to Missouri with his parents as a young man. Alexander married Jemima Crawford 15 Sep 1825 and they took up residence in Monroe County, Missouri. They had seven children:

"Alexander Allison came to Boone county in 1815, and settled about six miles north of Columbia. He helped to make the first wagon road ever opened in Boone county. It was called the Boone's Lick road."
