Earl V. Anderson, 93, former watch maker in Cambridge, died May 3, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Fridley. Earl Vincent Anderson was born Nov. 15, 1918 in St. Paul to Eric and Anna (Erickson) Anderson. His wife, Sally, died June 4, 2001. He was raised and attended school in St. Paul. Earl married Sally Browne on March 25, 1942 in St. Paul. Earl served in the Navy Reserves and later served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. While in the service he trained service men how to repair airplane instruments including the autopilot. Earl also trained pilots how to use the instruments. Earl even built a flight simulator which he used to train the pilots. Because Earl was in the service they first lived in Austin, Texas. They later moved back to St. Paul and then in 1946 they moved to Cambridge. Earl and Sally owned and operated Anderson Jewelers in Cambridge for many years. They were charter members of the Cambridge United Methodist Church. Earl was very active in local civic affairs. He was a past American Legion Commander and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. He was also a Shriner. Earl helped establish the Cambridge Ski Club, the Paddle-Rama event during the Swedish Festival and helped organize the parade. He also enjoyed fishing, sailing, kite flying and traveling. Earl was very proud of his Swedish heritage. He was very patriotic, proud of his country, and was a proud United States veteran. Earl is survived by 3 children, Judy (Bob) Cameron of St. Paul, Geri (Bob) Childress of Sewanee, TN, Jack (Kathie) Anderson of Shakopee; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Karin (Glen) Cleveland of Burnsville; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 9, 2012 at Cambridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Rollin officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at the Cambridge Chapel of Strike Funeral Home and 1 hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Dorcie Larson will serve as organist. Interment is in Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville. The Cambridge American Legion will provide the military honors. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel.
