Mrs. John Ammon Dies at Her Home on West Side

Resided Here 25 Years
Mrs. John Ammon died last Tuesday at her home on the west side, after an illness of two weeks, aged seventy-three years, six months and ten days.

Mrs. Ammon, whose maiden name was Mary E. Trent, was born in Glastonbury, Connecticut, February 12, 1832, and five years later moved with her parents to Quincy, Illinois, where she was married on Christmas day in 1851 to John Ammon. The following year they came to Iowa , locating on a farm near Waukon, where they resided until 1855 when they removed to Decorah. In 1880 the family came to Estherville, shortly thereafter, locating on the west side, which has since been their home. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ammon, three of whom with their father, survive. The children are J. L. Ammon of Rock county, Nebraska , Chauncey R. Ammon of this city, and Miss Minnie Ammon, who resides at the parental home.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. Richard Ellerby, rector of the Episcopal church. The remains were interred in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Ammon was an excellent woman and highly esteemed in the community which had for a quarter of a century been her home. She will be sincerely mourned by a wide circle of friends. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 30, 1905)
