certificate found at the Decatur County Court House in Leon Iowa. Vol 2
1928-1948 p.2. Decatur Township, Decatur County died William Price Akes, male,
white, age 81 yrs. 1 mo. 11 days, widowed, born 8 Aug 1851, Jefferson County,
Iowa, father Stephen R. Akes, mother, Sarah Meeker, died 19 Sept 1932, buried,
21 Sept 1932, Palestine Clemetery.
!Obituary in part reads, William Price Akes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R.
Akes, was born August 8, 1851 in Harrison County, Iowa, and departed this life
at his home in Decatur county, Iowa, Sept. 1932, at the age of 84 years, 1
month and 11 days. On November 8, 1871 he was married to Lavica Ann McKern and
they located on a farm near Decatur where he has made his home for the last 61
years. It then names family members and says he leaves one sister living, Mrs.
Emma Bain of Wayland Iowa, and one half brother Ben Akes of San Francisco,
California. He left 102 descendents. Early in life he joined the Baptist
church. He was also member of the Odd Fellows lodge of Decatur. Mr. Akes was
a kind father, a loving husband, a good neighbor. He will be missed by many
people he helped when in need as he was always ready to help any one in

Mar 25,1907 W.P. Akes and son, Harve departed Saturday for New Hampton, MO to
attend the funeral of his uncle.
Journal Reporter Aug. 14, 1919 p.8. Says Friday being W.P. Akes 68th birthday
and Monday being his son Don's 38th birthday, their relatives planned a grand
surprise on Sunday coming with well filed baskets and spreading a large dinner
to which all did ample justice. Those present were:
Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Brown, Mr and Mrs. John Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sneed from
Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rex and family, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Rex and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Umphress and daughter Laviey and son Charles, Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Daniels and son Rex, Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Boswell and son Gerald, and Miss Cecil Baker. They all departed at a
late hour wishing them many more happy birthdays.
