Leland Kendall Churchill, 81, World War II Army veteran, formerly of Irvington, Ky., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born May 13, 1926, in Marengo, he was the son of the late Forest R. and Elma D. Denton Churchill.
He was a graduate of Corydon High School and Indiana University, a former employee of Olin Chemical Corp. in Brandenburg, where he worked in safety and security, a former chief of the Irvington (Ky.) Volunteer Fire Dept., an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Italian campaign with the 85th Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, and a member of the Irvington Little League Association and Old Capitol United Methodist Church in Corydon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Forest R. Churchill Jr., and a sister, Evelyn Belcher.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Kay Davidson; a son, John Churchill of Florence, Ky.; three daughters, Anne Crawford of Auburn, Ky., Ruth McCoy of Cary, N.C., and Sue Churchill of Versailles, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 3 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 15, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Alvin Wilson.
Pallbearers: Dale McCoy, Keith Churchill, Brian Crawford, Thomas Wilhoit, Philip Crawford and James Davidson.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Harrison County Parks Dept. for Hayswood Nature Reserve at Corydon.
