DEATH NOTICE ALLOA ADVERTISER APRIL 16, 1892, P. 3:
"FATAL BURNING ACCIDENT - A shoemaker named Thos. Bauchop, aged 76 years, was found dead in his house, Main Street, Clackmannan, on Sunday morning, the evident cause of death being burning. Late on Saturday evening a woman, who makes her living by hawking goods in the district, was seen to enter the house, but nothing transpired to arouse the suspicion of the neighbours until the following morning, when it was observed that the shutters on the windows of the old man's house had not been opened. One of the neighbours endeavored to find an entrance by the front door and failed, but on proceeding to the back of the house he was astonished to see the back door and the garden gate standing open. He at once made his way into the kitchen, and discovered the old man lying dead on the floor, life apparently had been extinct for a considerable time. The clothes were still smouldering, and on a closer examination it was seen that the body was much charred in some parts. It is not known how the unfortunate man's apparel had been ignited, but it is believed to have been accidentally. The circumstances of the case at first threw some suspicion on the hawker already referred to, and she was in the course of the next day apprehended, but further inquiries led to her liberation, as it was shown that she had been in no way connected with the sad occurrence. The deceased, who lived alone, was of a quiet and inoffensive disposition, and has long been a familiar figure on the streets of the county town."
DEATH NOTICE ALLOA JOURNAL April 16, 1892:
"Sad Burning Accident. - On Sunday morning a shoemaker named Thomas Bauchope residing by himself in a house off Main Street Clackmannan, was discovered lying upon the floor dead. The deceased who was between 60 and 70 years of age, complained of giddiness on Saturday and was seen alive about 10 p.m. in the evening. On Sunday morning a neighbour tapped upon the window and getting no response the door was forced open and Bauchope was found dead, his night clothes being partially burned off him. It is supposed that the old man had fallen upon the fire when preparing to go to bed."
