Patricia Benning, affectionately known as "Bing," passed away peacefully on March 16, 2010, in Napa. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Benning Sr. She is survived by her four children: Bob Jr. (Karin), Peggy Kech (Phil), Anne Pitta (George) and Barbara Wilson (Ron). Patricia has seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Regina, Lauren, Carolyn, Christine, Michelle and Daniel, and five great-grandchildren: Jesse, Natalie, Jackson, Addison and Maya.
Pat was born in Monmouth, Ill., on March 12, 1924, daughter of Eldon and Gladys. She was one of six children, and later served as WAVE yeomen in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. Pat married Robert Benning Sr. in 1945, and moved to Napa where they raised their four children. Over her lifetime, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a parishioner of St. Apollinaris Catholic Church.
Her interests included spending time with her family, gardening (especially her roses), sewing, reading, and collecting Annalee dolls. All types of animals brought her great joy through the years.
Pat will be fondly remembered as a kind and giving person by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Napa Valley, 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
There will be a rosary held at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 19. The funeral Mass will be at St. Apollinaris at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 20. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2 p.m., at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa.
