John M. "Jack" Bergan, of Newtown, PA died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at his daughter's home surrounded by his family. He was 78.
He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Dorothy Leinauer Bergan.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Bergan Sr. and Marie Dorney Bergan.
Mr. Bergan grew up in the Northeast and was a 1947 graduate of North Catholic. Shortly after graduating he joined the U.S. Army and served in Europe during the Korean War. After returning home he began working for James D. Morrissey Inc., and remained with them for over 45 years. Jack performed various jobs during his career before serving as one of the company's top superintendents. Over the years, Jack developed many good relationships and close friends who respected him, not only for his work, but also his honesty.
In 1966, Jack moved to Newtown where he got involved in his community and his parish, St. Bede the Venerable Church, he was proud member of R. V. Hennessey Council #6145, Knights of Columbus and the St. John Neumann 4th Degree Assembly. He enjoyed his yearly retreats with the Men of Malvern and helping his fellow Knights with the students of the Woods School in Langhorne. Sitting idle was not easy for Jack. He loved to work and spent many a Sunday taking a drive to see the various jobs in progress or prospecting the next one coming out for bid that he may be called on to work. However, when he was at home he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement Jack spent a few days a week driving a customer shuttle for Faulkner Automobile Dealership of Trevose.
