Gracie Ida Hoover Bailey, 97, of Scott Depot entered into Heaven on October 16, 2007.
Gracie was born in Quarry, Virginia, on March 13, 1910, and was a daughter of the late Mary Ann and Dave Hoover.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Arvin I. Bailey. They made their home in North Carolina for 43 years and later moved to the Scott Depot area. She was also preceded in death by one son, Sammy Bailey. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.
She was a charter member of the Washington Street Church of God, Charleston, where she served in many different capacities of the church. She later attended Glad Tidings Worship Center, Hurricane.
Gracie is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Coleman of St. Albans and Doris J. McBrayer of Scott Depot, with whom she made her home for the past 15 years. She is also survived by two sisters, Rachel Clapp and Ruth Hoover, both of Saltville, Virginia; five grandchildren, Thresa Coleman of St. Albans, Chuck (Pam) McBrayer of Kenna, Dale (Jennifer) Coleman of Scott Depot, Dee (Barbara) McBrayer of Scott Depot, Renay McBrayer (Randy) Jarrell, also of Scott Depot; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and special nephew, Bill Clapp of Marion, Virginia.
Donations may be made in memory of Gracie to Glad Tidings Worship Center, 121 Mill Road, Hurricane, WV 25526.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jack Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
