KNIGHT, DOROTHEA ALICE "TODDY" RYAN, of Boulder, CO died Sunday, September 23rd at Boulder Manor. She was 89. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 E. Lyman Avenue, Winter Park, at 3PM on Monday, November 5, 2007. Toddy was born on December 4, 1917 in Seattle, to Francis Casey Anthony Ryan and Frances Lundt Ryan. She graduated in 1935 from Barringer High School in Newark, NJ, and then received a BA in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College in 1939, and a MS in Education and Counseling from Syracuse University in 1970. She worked in elementary and high schools as a guidance counselor until her retirement. Toddy married Leonard William "Tremp" Tremper on May 3, 1947 in New York City, and lived in Florham Park, NJ and Fayetteville, NY, until relocating to Fort Myers, FL in 1972. Tremp passed away in 1977. Toddy married William Coke Knight in 1979 in Winter Park, FL; they divorced in 1994. Since July of 2005, Toddy has been living in Boulder. Toddy was a lifelong short story writer, poet, painter, gardener, and an avid music lover, being active in community and Episcopal Church choirs until 1972. She was a Stephen Minister, Hospice Bereavement Coordinator, award-winning flower arranger. Above all was her love of animals, the many who were her companions over her lifetime, and those - all of them - not so fortunate. Survivors include her daughter, Kathe Lujan (Charlie) of Boulder; son, Michael Tremper (Christine Swarthout) of Cheektowaga, NY; two granddaughters, Andrea and Joanna Lujan, both of Boulder, and her cats, Jimmy and Abigail of Maitland, FL. She was predeceased by her sisters Nora Hewson and Jane Bauman Hurst. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L. Street NW, Washington, DC 20037, or to All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 E. Lyman Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789.
