John was born on 01 December 1885 in Mifflin Township, Richland County, Ohio as the son of Samuel Wilson & Margaret Shanibarger & grandson of Hugh & Nancy Wilson and Henry & Julia Anna Ursula Siglo Shanabarger. He married Mabel Mae Etty on 10 September 1910 in Orange Co, Fla. He died on 06 November 1969 in Orlando, Florida.
John was baptized by the Reverend Gran on June 19, 1986. He joined the Methodist Church in 1891. He inherited a Stradivarius violin from his father. He was unaware of the value of the violin and kept it in the barn at the house at 1330 Perkins Road in Pine Castle, Florida. It was destroyed when the barn burned down. During the 1930s John and Mabel left for work at dawn and worked until midnight on a regular basis. This was before the 40 hour work week was implemented. During the 1940s and 1950s he worked as a night guard for the Royal Crown Can Company in Orlando. Florida. He moved to Pine Castle, Florida with his family in 1892. During World War II, he and his family lived on Anderson Street in downtown Orlando and ran a boarding house. They moved back to Pine Castle after the war ended. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando by Fairchild Funeral Home in Block 9, Section 8, Lot 7, next to his wife Mabel.
