PLAIN CITY - Brent Byron Gibson, 64, passed away surrounded by his family on June 16, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Brent was born December 3rd, 1945 to Charles Blair and Fae Carver Gibson. He married the love of his life and best friend, Janet Messerly, on May 12, 1972. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Blake, Jay and Shane.
He was raised in Taylor, UT and later moved to Plain City where he raised his family. He loved spending time in the outdoors and spending time working around his home. He also loved going to the chariot races and spent time when he was young training horses and worked horses in California, Nevada, and Utah. He enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler with Janet and was happy to take his grandchildren for rides on the 4-wheeler and tractor. He had many dear friends and cherished his lifelong friendship with John Watson. Brent adored his grandchildren and they adored him! He was a baby magnet and you could be sure that he would be holding any baby that was around. All kids loved him!
Brent served in the National Guard for 6 years. He was employed at the Defense Depot Ogden, Weber County, and later worked at Hill AFB as a sheet metal mechanic and in software support until he retired in 2009. He made many lasting friendships at work.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janet; two children, Blake, Plain City, and Jay (Patrice), Ogden; Brothers Ronald (Nancy), Dean (DeAnn), Rick (Caroline), David (Pearl); Sister Debbie (Robert) Ortega; Brother-in-law Gary (Helen) Barnes; Grandchildren Hannah, Olivia, Blaire, Dallin, James, Samantha and Charly; And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Shane, and his sister, Linda.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Plain City Stake Center, 4630 West 2150 North. Friends may visit with the family at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the Stake Center on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
