She was retired from Lucent Technology, formerly AT&T and C&P Telephone, with 28 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, working puzzles and creating crafts.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Okey Bowe and Alma Cottrill.
She is survived by lifetime companion, Jack Boggess of Charleston; daughters, Denise Stratton of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tina Bowles of St. Albans; sons, Russell Akers of South Charleston and Scooter Akers of St. Albans; extended family, Corrina Boggess and Roserita McDaniel, both of Tampa, Fla.; lifetime friend, Pat Mitchell of Baton Rouge, La.; sisters, Mickey Slate of Clendenin and Joyce Gibson of Castle Creek, N.Y.; brother, Carlos Bowe of Joshua Tree, Calif.; half sisters, B.J. Paige of Spartanburg, S.C., and Shelia Bumbalough of Manchester, Tenn.; nine grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter.
A service to honor the life of Nancy J. Akers will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 31, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
