Anna Laura Schmidt was the d/o of Theodor and Margaret (Powell) Schmidt. Her father emigrated from Prussia and her mother emigrated from Wales. Anna Schmidt married Horatio Washington Wisner, Jr. on 20 Apr 1898 in Dunn Co., WI, the s/o Horatio and Marilla (Scott) Wisner. Her husband died on the floor of the Duluth, St. Louis Co., armory housing victims of the 1918 Flu Pandemic. Following his death, Anna sub rented the upper floor of Casey's Drugstore in Chisholm, St. Louis Co., MN and ran a boarding house for immigrant iron miners where she fed, washed, and cared for the men. Anna's daughter, Vivian Maude Wisner, helped her mother with the chores, but Anna would send her to live with friends in the evening when the men often became boisterous and the boarding house was obviously not a place for a young lady. Later, Anna worked as a practical nurse in private homes. Anna died of coronary thrombosis in Abbott Hospital, Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN.
