Sarah Abigail Norton married James Harrison Rushton (my gggrandparents) 27 Oct 1841. Sarah was the d/o Jonathan Norton and Betsey (Chase) Norton. Her siblings were Solomen Chase Norton b. 12 Apr 1815, called "Chase" and Abraham Norton b. 31 Jan 1821, called "Abram". Sarah was b. in Frankfort, Waldo Co., ME.
A famous member of the Norton family was Lillian Nordica, American opera singer (b. Lillian Norton) at Farmington, ME, 12 May 1859. Her repertoire was large and she was especially successful in Wagnerian opera and in "Les Huguenots" as Aida. In 1913, she set out on a concert tour of the world. She died as a result of exposure after the wreck of the steamer, "Tasman" on the island of Java at Batavia 10 May 1914. Her picture, holding a black fan, is on the 1903-1904 Coca Cola tray, now a valued antique item. The fan can still be seen at the Nordica (Norton) Homestead in Farmington, ME.
